Guardian Program

At Granite State Labradoodles, our Guardian Program allows our top-quality pups, with future breeding potential to live full, happy lives as cherished family pets rather than in a kennel setting. Carefully chosen puppies with exceptional health, temperament, and lineage are placed with local guardian families and return to us for short, scheduled breeding or whelping periods. Our guardian families become a valued part of the Granite State Labradoodles family and enjoy a unique, rewarding experience. Click below to learn more about our Guardian Program.

At Granite State Labradoodles, we believe all of our dogs—both pets and breeding dogs—should be raised in loving, family environments. We do not operate a large kennel-style facility. Instead, our Guardian Program allows our breeding dogs to live full, happy lives as cherished family companions.

Each litter is carefully evaluated, and puppies are selected for breeding potential based on exceptional lineage, conformation, and temperament. The most outstanding puppy is then placed with a local guardian family, where they are raised, trained, and loved as a member of the family for their entire life.

While guardian dogs live full-time with their families, they may spend short, scheduled periods with us for breeding, whelping, and raising their puppies. Once a dog is of age, Granite State Labradoodles completes and fully covers all required genetic health testing. Only dogs who meet our strict health and breeding standards are officially entered into our Guardian Program.

Our guardian families truly enjoy being part of the Granite State Labradoodles family. Many love witnessing the reproductive process and cherish the experience of seeing their dog become a mother or father. Visiting the puppies and watching them grow is a rewarding and meaningful experience for both the dogs and their families. We are incredibly grateful for the close relationships we have built with our guardian families and value their role in our breeding program.

WHAT IS A GUARDIAN PROGRAM?

The top quality, best tempered, most impressive looking pup(s) from our program live with local families. A small deposit of $500 is required to become a guardian family. The puppy is raised as part of your family and once of age (typically around 1 1/2-2 years old) and all genetic health testing is completed and passed, they may enter our breeding program. Once health testing is done, Granite State Labradoodles will make the decision whether the dog will enter the guardian program or not. If we choose not to have them enter the guardian program, they are placed with you as a forever pet. If they do enter the program meeting our very high standards, when in “season” (which typically lasts about 14-21 days) the guardian family must contact us right away at first signs of heat and be available to bring the dog to our home for breeding purposes. She will then return back to guardian home after about one week (hopefully pregnant!). Over the next 55 days you get to enjoy watching the dog’s pregnancy, feel the kicks of little puppies growing, and experience the wonders of the miracle of life. The female returns to our home about one week before her due date and delivers her pups here. Our guardian families are permitted and encouraged to visit (must be scheduled) and able to meet her wonderful litter. Families enjoy seeing the qualities they love in their guardian dog passed on to their gorgeous pups. Females typically stay with their pups for about 6-7 weeks. When the weaning process is completed, the guardian dog returns back to her guardian family. Guardian dogs typically have 2-4 litters and then we will cover the cost of spay (up to $400) and “retire” them from the breeding program into your permanent and loving family as a forever pet. We will reimburse you $250 per litter that the guardian dog whelps.

WHAT ABOUT GUARDIANS FOR MALE DOGS?

Occasionally, Granite State Labradoodles will have a male puppy available for placement in a guardian home. Males go through the same health testing process and we have the same requirements for guardian families, however rather than returning to our home to whelp pups, male guardian families must make the male available for conjugal visits and breeding time with females here at our home. The frequency of this varies but males typically return to our home for a few visits when breeding with a particular female and then return to their guardian family.
